This tool is lightweight with an attractive GUI, and allows batch downloading of a list of URLs. It can also copy links from the browser directly and utilize them for downloading. It is also pluggable and other download sites’ support will come in future versions.
On launch, you need to provide the login info for your account. The download features are available only after that.
MuDownManager

This tool requires you to have a premium MegaUpload or RapidShare account, and hence the download screenshot above has been taken from the developer’s website since we did not have a premium account available at the time of review.
MuDownManager is Java-based, and ran fine on our test machine running Windows 7 32-bit OS.

Fix svchost.exe Crash Caused By McAfee Or Virus

SvcHost.exe is the most important part of Windows, deleting it would crash your entire operating system. You are probably reading this post because McAfee Antivirus deleted your SvcHost file after false positive detection and you cannot login to your primary system. This was a mistake on the McAfee’s part but most viruses can also delete your SvcHost file. Thankfully we have a solution to fix it.
If you are using Windows XP with Service pack 3 installed then you can type the following and hit Enter.
copy c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe c:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache
This will copy the svchost.exe file to “c:\WINDOWS\system32\dllcache” folder. If svchost.exe is residing in system32 folder, then only write the path “c:\Windows\system32\” (without the quotes).
Mark van Driel & Maurits van der Schee have created a quick fix tool called SvcHostFix, for users who are stuck. It is a simple command line tool that will automatically copy back the svchost.exe file, thus fixing the problem. The program works like this:
  1. IF the file size of c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe is 0 bytes or the file doesn’t exist
  2. THEN IF the file size of c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\svchost.exe is 0 bytes or the file doesn’t exist
  3. THEN copy that file to c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe
  4. ELSE IF the file size of c:\windows\system32\dllcache\svchost.exe is 0 bytes or the file doesn’t exist
  5. THEN copy that file to c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe
  6. ELSE copy (embedded) Windows XP SP3’s svchost.exe file to c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe
Simple as that! You can grab the tool from the link below. Note that it requires a minimum .NET 2 Framework installed.

Identify Windows Unknown Devices In Device Manager

Almost everyone has some unknown devices in the Windows Device Manager, which appears due to lack of driver installation. The biggest headache is to find out which unknown device is it? Most users will blindly install drivers of all devices, hoping that the unknown device will finally get recognized.

UnknownDevices is a small opensource utility which helps administrators quickly identify the actual device who’s driver needs to be installed. In layman’s term, it identifies those “Unknown Devices” that show up after Windows restart and under Device Manager.
Identify Windows Unknown Device Tool
It is a portable tool and includes a custom updater as well which needs to be run manually to check for latest updates. Just run the program and it will display all Hardware Devices that are listed as “Unknown Devices” under Device Manager in all versions of Windows, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Check Website Exploits With Link Scanner Online

Cyber Criminals use different sorts of sites to attract visitors and then they inject the exploitation code in to the user’s computer and try to steal confidential data. It is always advisable to check the site that you are about to visit and confirm whether or not it is not harmful for your computer.
Link Scanner Online is an online service which is part of AVG LinkScanner, it checks the provided url and tells whether it is safe to visit the link or not. Simply enter the anti-bot code, specify the web address for which you wish to check and hit the Scan button.
It will inform you if it found any exploits or not.

Ofcourse you wouldn’t visit this site to check every site all the time, sometimes the user needs to know immediately. This is where you can install AVG LinkScanner or simply use WOT add-on. This online service can be used to check the creditability of LinkScanner and to check if it detects the exploits correctly before giving AVG LinkScanner a shot.

Tweak Firefox about:config With Configuration Mania

Type about:config in Firefox’s address bar, hit Enter, and tell me what you see. If you don’t understand what the heck all the options are for then you are one of those people who need Configuration Mania add-on for Firefox.
You can tweak almost every aspect of Firefox from about:config, but this can be done by advanced users only. So how will the basic novice users tweak Firefox? The answer is Configuration Mania add-on.
Once installed, navigate to Tools > Configuration Mania and you will see all browser settings neatly laid out. You can change every type of settings from here, the developers have however not included the settings that users should not touch. But having said that, there are lots of options that you might want to actually access.

Below you will find screenshots of Security and User Interface settings. Options to tweak Javascript, Popup Windows, Antivirus, SSL, Network, Privacy, Mouse Wheel, Multi-Touch, Find In Page, Key Navigation and others are neatly laid down as sub-tabs.

This is a must have add-on for novice and semi-advanced users alike. Even though I am experienced with about:config, using this add-on will actually make it much easier and faster. Don’t you agree?
It works on all versions of Firefox from 3.0 to 3.6, including the latest up-to-date release. Enjoy!

Download & Save Web Page/Article In PDF Format – Web2PDF

Web2PDF is an online service which can quickly convert any website/blog homepage or article to PDF format. Just enter the URL, wait a few seconds(or minutes), and click to download & save it as a PDF document.
There are various methods to save any web page into PDF format. One is to paste the URL manually, second is to add the bookmarklet to the browser bookmarks, and third is to install the add-on if you are using Firefox.

While testing I noticed that it was quite fast when converting any article or web page with less graphics. If the article is long and full of graphics, it would obviously take some time before the PDF file is ready.
The service also provides a button which webmasters can implement on their site. One click and the readers will be able to download and save the complete page as a PDF document. It works similar to clicking the bookmarklet but makes it easier for new visitors.
